"Melissa Wright Katongola, a French-Congolese creative who models and is studying Law and Politics at Stirling University. I met her when the Amazon Prime Anansi  Boys production was being shot in Edinburgh. She’s socially engaged, politically aware, wanting to make a difference. It's people like her who are helping to shape the future of our world now and that makes me hugely hopeful and excited for what’s to come. [AM]"

Many influences have shaped the fascinating style of Melissa.

Her Congolese origins, from her mother's side, gave her this attraction for tribal and geometrical motifs drawn in vibrant colors.

Moreover, the shape of her figures found their influence in Fernand Léger's work. Who gave birth to a new form of cubism to grasp the modernity of his time.

Finally, Melissa's admiration for Greek sculptures and aesthetic is really apparent in her work, which displays overly muscular figures similar to the godlike image of the Greek' heroes and divinities.

Therefore, between colors and monochrome, cubism and undulation of bodies, hair, muscles and flesh; Melissa's style illustrates a dialectic of complementary opposites, vibrant and unique.
